Police search for man who 'fled the scene of stabbing death'

A man arrested after a stabbing death in NSW’s Lake Macquarie region has been released as police search for another man who fled the scene.

A 35-year-old man was found at a Bolton Point home about 10.45pm on Sunday and died an hour later in hospital.

Detectives spoke to a man in his 50s but later released him. Police have clarified he was just a witness.

“We have spoken to a number of people who were at the gathering, including a man aged in his 50s, all of whom have provided significant information about the incident,” Detective Chief Inspector Gary Jubelin said in a statement on Monday.

Inspector Jubelin said authorities are following several lines of inquiry but they are keen to find a man who was at the home at the time of the stabbing.

“At this stage of the investigation, we are keen to speak with a 32-year-old man who left the home prior to police arrival,” Insp Jubelin said.

He’s described as Caucasian and 172cm tall.

“I urge that man to come forward and speak with investigators as soon as possible,” Det Chief Insp Jubelin said.

Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information about the stabbing is urged to contact police immediately on 1800 333 000.
