Police officer saves baby's life after pulling car over for speeding

A police officer has been hailed a hero for performing lifesaving CPR on the week-old baby of a woman he pulled over for speeding.

Dramatic footage captured from Deputy Will Kimbro’s bodycam during a routine patrol in the US state of South Carolina showed the tiny baby with blue lips and seemingly struggling to breath.

In a post to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office Facebook page on July 12, police explained a woman exited the vehicle when it was pulled over on June 11 to explain the frantic situation.

“The driver immediately exited the car and exclaimed that the baby in her vehicle had stopped breathing,” the post read.

Vision showed Deputy Kimbro checking the child’s pulse and proceeding to tap lightly on her chest after clearing her airways.

"Come on, baby, cry for me, cry for me. Open those eyes, sweetheart," he could be heard saying.

As the child began to cry, he reassured the mother, telling her that the cries were a sign her baby was breathing.

The baby’s chest could be seen moving intermittently before paramedics arrived and Deputy Kimbro handed her over.

His instant reaction and accurate completion of correct first aid has been credited for saving the baby’s life.

“Deputy Kimbro took the baby’s limp and cyanotic body and performed lifesaving first aid. As a result, he was able to get the baby to breathe again until emergency services could arrive,” the post stated.

“Because of Deputy Kimbro’s steadfast, professional and heroic response, the 12-day old baby was able to live.”

Hero handed special award for actions

Deputy Kimbro has since been awarded the “Life-Saving Medal” for his heroic actions.

More than 2000 people shared the inspiring post, while 900 people expressed their gratitude and amazement in comments.

“Thank you for your services and heroic act in saving this baby’s life! May you continue with the acts of protecting and serving. You surely did a great job,” a Facebook user wrote.

“Praise God for his skills and determination. Thank you officer. May you continue to protect and serve,” another person said.

“Great pre-arrival care sir! Love when everyone and everything comes together for a positive outcome,” someone else wrote.
