Police rescue injured koala, make him an unofficial officer
Police officers have rescued a koala and dressed it in police clothes as shown in a heartwarming photograph.
Officers found the injured koala from the side of Caramut Road near Warnambool at about 3am on Friday morning.
“We got out to have a look at it and we noticed a pool of blood on the ground behind it,” Leading Senior Constable Greg Kew told Yahoo7.
“It had been hit by a car and it had a bit of blood around its eye and had a bit of blood around its hind claws.”
“I know that koalas can be pretty vicious, so I didn’t walk straight up to it and grab it.
“I walked up behind it and just sort of patted it gently and then it was happy with that, so I patted it a bit more.
“I picked him up from behind and put him in the back of the van and took it back to the station.”
The adorable creature was dubbed “Constable Teddy Bear” and “Caramello” by officers at Warnambool Police Station.
“When we got to the station, we got some towels for it and wrapped him up in the towels, as per the photo and put a hat on him,” Leading Constable Kew said.
“We called the wildlife rescue and they came and got him a couple of hours later.”
Victoria Police tweeted adorable photographs of the koala and Leading Constable Kew on Friday.
“Constable Teddy Bear, we called it, because there is a, there is a Vic Pol teddy bear called Constable Teddy Bear,” Leading Constable Kew said.
“He got called Caramello and a couple of other names as well.”
Leading Constable Kew said the koala was taken to the veterinarian and is expected to make a full recovery.
The koala will then be released into the wild, near the area that it was found.
