Police release video of woman sought after sex assault at train station

A woman is being sought following the sexual assault of a 17-year-old schoolgirl at a railway station in Melbourne’s west last month.

The girl was on her way home from school about 2pm on Tuesday, May 1 when the woman allegedly approached her from behind at Newport station and sexually assaulted her as she walked down the ramp to the exit.

Investigators have released CCTV footage and an image of a woman they want to speak to who is believed to be aged in her 30s, with brown hair and a tattoo or writing on her right thigh and back.

It’s believed the woman may have been at the station with a man of Caucasian appearance who was wearing an Essendon Bombers baseball cap, an open dark-coloured shirt over a red T-shirt and dark-coloured pants.
