Police officer hit while trying to stop stolen car

A South Australian police officer has been hit while trying to stop a stolen car in Adelaide.

At 12.30pm, officers spotted a stolen white Volkswagen Amarok ute on Flaxmill Road at Christie Downs, SA police said.

“Checks on the registration found that the vehicle had been stolen from a Noarlunga Centre car wash yesterday morning,” a spokesperson said.

The Volkswagen was not pursued but police tracked it via helicopter as it travelled through Adelaide's inner southern and western suburbs, officers confirmed.

The officer was struck by a member of the public’s car on Anzac Highway as he tried to deploy spikes to stop the vehicle.

He was not seriously injured and is being treated by paramedics.

The Volkswagen was dumped and the male driver ran off before being arrested in a nearby car park.
