Police officer jailed for having sex with girl, 14, he tracked down on Snapchat

An anti-terrorism police officer has been jailed for eight years for having sex with a 14-year-old girl who he tracked down using Snapchat maps.

Peter Daniel Drummond, 38 from the UK, travelled from his house in outer London to the South West on two occasions to have sex with his underage victim.

On one occasion he let himself in via an unlocked gate at the home the girl shared with her mother and her mother’s partner, and on the second visit he climbed through her bedroom window, a court heard.

Drummond, of Three Mile Cross, Berkshire, had been on trial at Truro Crown Court charged with three counts of rape and three alternative charges of sexual activity with a child.

Four of the charges relate to October 26, 2017, while two date to November 17, 2017.

Drummond denied the charges throughout but did admit to having “consensual” sex with the girl, saying that he had no reason to believe she was under the legal age of consent.

After a week-long trial and three hours of deliberation a jury convicted Drummond on Monday of three counts of sexual activity with a child.

He was sentenced to eight years in prison for each count to be served concurrently.

He was found not guilty of three charges of rape.

The court had heard Drummond, a married father, has worked as a specialist anti-terrorism police officer with the Ministry of Defence since 2006.

The court heard that the victim had been left “broken” and had attempted to take her own life.

Her mother said her daughter had been “utterly destroyed” by Drummond’s actions.

On his second visit to the girl’s house, Drummond climbed in through an upstairs window while her stepfather was downstairs.

Opening the case, Fiona Elder, prosecuting, said Drummond befriended the girl on social media, using Kik messenger and Snapchat.

Ms Elder said police used automatic number plate recognition cameras to show that Drummond’s BMW had travelled down and returned from Cornwall on the dates when they had sex.

“He had come to her house using Snapchat mapping,” she added.

The court also heard how the girl received $54 from a bank account in Drummond’s name so that she could buy a new pair of shoes.
