Police investigating after fire completely destroys church

A fire that completely destroyed a church in NSW’s Northern Rivers is being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services responded to the blaze just before 5am on Sunday at Glenreagh in the Clarence Valley and found St Paul’s Catholic Church well alight.

The fire was eventually extinguished by Fire & Rescue NSW officers, but the building was completely destroyed.

NSW police say the circumstances behind the fire are being treated as suspicious.

“A crime scene was established, which is being examined by forensic specialists,” a NSW Police statement said.
