Police want public help to identify two men they believe are behind a cannabis crop uncovered in Kinglake National Park, northeast of Melbourne.

Park rangers and police found about 40 plants near Watsons Creek Track in Christmas Hills on Wednesday, with an estimated street value of $50,000.

Authorities have recently found numerous crops in the area already harvested.

Police have been conducting regular patrols to try to catch those involved.

They're looking for a Caucasian man with brown hair, stubble and an athletic build, who's about 170cm tall.

The second man they're seeking is also Caucasian, about 185cm tall, skinny and has light brown hair and scars on his face.
