Police hold 97 in Sydney theft crackdown

NSW police say they have arrested 97 people in a four-day crackdown on shoplifting in Sydney's CBD and eastern suburbs.

Officers also recovered $9860 worth of stolen goods in Operation Lightfingers carried out between Tuesday and Friday.

The operation targeted shoplifting offences in major retail outlets in the Sydney CBD, Surry Hills, Glebe, Ultimo and Bondi.

Police arrested 97 people and charged them with a total of 114 offences.

Of those arrested, 32 people were charged, 29 were issued court attendance notices, 41 received criminal infringement notices, 12 were issued warnings and 12 young people were issued youth cautions.
