Police on desperate hunt for gunman who shot teen girl

Police are this morning on a desperate hunt for the gunman who shot a teenage girl outside a western Sydney home.

Five shots were fired from the passenger seat of a car at Constance Street, Guildford on Tuesday night before it sped off.

The bullets hit a 13-year-old girl who needed eight hours of surgery for serious leg injuries.

The girl was chatting with a group of other girls when a silver SUV pulled up and shots rang out.

Officers say the shooting was targeted and cowardly.

She was taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead where she underwent surgery and remained in a stable condition on Wednesday evening.

The girl’s mother said she had no idea what sparked the shooting.

“She was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” she told News Limited.

Superintendent Matt Appleton condemned the incident as cowardly.

“This is an atrocious crime… for a young girl to be wounded is just shocking,” he said.

The girl shared a video of her injuries from a hospital bed with friends via social media.
