Police confirm beer thief isn't Ross from 'Friends'

A British police force’s Facebook post asking for help identifying an alleged beer thief has been ambushed by eagle-eyed users who couldn’t help but notice the man’s likeness to a famous American actor.

Thousands took to Blackpool Police’s post on Tuesday with little interest in identifying the man in the picture but instead deciding to point out his uncanny resemblance to David Schwimmer – more commonly known as Ross from the TV show Friends.

His infamous goofy persona was the butt of hundreds of jokes delivered by eager Facebook users, much to the delight of the masses flocking to the post.

Many of the gags incorporated some of Ross’s most memorable lines from the hit show which called it a day in 2004 after 10 memorable seasons.

“Was he on a break?” one user quipped in reference to his infamous reasoning with on screen love interest Rachel.

“That’s not Ross, it’s Russ!!!” another said, joking about a look-a-like character in the show.

One comment initially appeared to reprimand the jokers but it soon became clear they were merely joining in.

“Guys this is serious…it was a robbery based on giving and receiving as well as having and sharing,” the response began.

“And the stolen items that they give and have is shared and received. And through this having and giving and sharing and receiving, we too can share and love and have… and receive.”

While their main interest remains catching the alleged thief, Blackpool Police couldn’t help themselves and offered their best line to the online crowd while confirming the culprit was not Ross.

“Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses,” they began.

“We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.”

The furore online comes after a police force in the US was given similar treatment when a suspect it was looking to identify happened to look like famous rapper Eminem.
