How police caught up with man who led them on alleged 150km car chase


A man has been arrested following an alleged 150km car chase from the Hunter Valley region to Sydney after police nabbed him in traffic.

Police will allege the 27-year-old man stole a Nissan Navara ute from a Maitland business on Tuesday about 1pm.

It is further alleged the man crashed the car into another on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Tuggerah Lakes about 2.30pm but refused to stop.

Police were notified as the man drove south at Mount White.

Brisbane Water Traffic and Highway Patrol began to pursue him as he continued onto the Pacific Highway at Berowra, but they were forced to abandon pursuit on the ground.

Polair, the NSW Police Force’s aviation support branch, tracked the car as it re-entered the M1 about 40 metres from Pennant Hills Road in Sydney’s northwest where it stopped in traffic.

It is at this point police were able to arrest him.

The 27-year-old was taken to Hornsby Police Station followed by hospital for assessment.

He was charged with police pursuit, larceny for allegedly stealing car keys, take and drive conveyance, negligent driving, not exchange particulars, driving while suspended and driving under the influence.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday.
