Police break up driver and cyclist in New York street brawl

A New York City street fight was captured on video as three people relentlessly throw punches until police arrive.

It is unclear what started to the brawl involving two men and a woman at a Manhattan pedestrian crossing, but car-sized skid marks can be seen in the video leading to where a bicycle lays on the road, speculating a road rage incident between a motorist and a cyclist.

In the two-minute clip, the woman seems to be trying to protect the man stuck at the bottom of the melee from the other man who continues to throw punches.

The video, recorded near the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen on Tuesday, shows a Good Samaritan approaching the group in an attempt to break up the fight. But it seems he doesn’t know how to help, and walks away when he sees police about to pull over.

Police officers arrive on the scene moment later to break up the fight.

One of the men is thrown to the ground, while two more officers corner the other man.

Police question each of the three brawlers separately when the video cuts.

Social media users pointed out the intersection was notorious for collisions.

“I used to work at the Intrepid and saw so many collisions on the opposite side of that intersection, cyclists shooting down the bike trail blow that light all the time and end up hitting pedestrians leaving the museum,” one Reddit user wrote.

“I'll never forget one I saw where a guy on a bike hits someone and went flying into the road, and an old lady who witnessed it started screaming at him that is was his fault.”

“I bike there in the mornings, and I'm always amazed at the cyclists that breeze through there without even looking to see if it's clear!” another wrote.

“I'm surprised they aren't peeling people off the asphalt there every day.”
