Police await autopsy results after death of boy, 2, who was found near water in Soper Park
Autopsy results could help police determine how a two-year-old boy died after being found in Cambridge's Soper Park early Monday morning.
Police say they received a call around 6 a.m. for reports of a missing child.
"The mother had been at the park with her son," Waterloo Regional Police Service spokesperson Cherri Greeno told CBC News.
Police searched and found the boy "in and around the water area" in the park, Greeno said.
The child was unresponsive and life-saving measures were provided. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
"It's possible that a number of factors, including environmental conditions and time of day, may have contributed to what took place," Greeno said.
"This is a tragic situation for everyone involved and our thoughts continue to be with the family."
