On Thursday, Hungary granted political asylum to Former Deputy Justice Minister Marcin Romanowski who is wanted over alleged fraud at a state institution under the previous ruling nationalist government.
The government in Warsaw also recalled its ambassador to Hungary for “consultations,” according to a statement published by the Foreign Ministry on Friday.
The ministry warned the cabinet of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban that if Budapest continues to neglect its obligation to hand over Romanowski, Poland will ask the European Commission to bring the matter before the bloc’s Court of Justice.
