Plastic surgeon dies after contracting Covid from woman getting lip fillers

A dad of two and Beverly Hills plastic surgeon has died after contracting Covid-19 from a patient he was injecting with lip fillers.

Dr Payman Simoni, 50, performed the injection on the woman in December.

She had her temperature checked at the time and filled out a coronavirus questionnaire, however she called the doctor days after the procedure to inform him she had tested positive.

Friends of Dr Simoni said he felt “perfectly fine” for about a week but then began experience symptoms, KCAL reports.

After being taken to Cesars-Sinai Medical Centre with shortness of breath, he quickly deteriorated and the doctor was placed in a medically induced coma when his lungs began to fail.

On January 8 he died from a brain haemorrhage.

Close friend Katy Amiri-Younes told KCAL she was shocked he had died from the virus because he was in such good shape and had even helped her when she had coronavirus.

“The shock is that he was so perfectly healthy… he’s a doctor, I called him when I had Covid and he was instructing me what to do,” she said.

In May Beverly Hills City Council members voted to allow elective surgeries amid the pandemic, according to Metro.

Residents wanted to be able to receive treatments for issues such as tooth aches, however this opened the door for cosmetic surgery.

John Hopkins University reports there have been over 12,670 deaths in Los Angeles since the epidemic began. The county also has the highest number of confirmed cases in the US at just over 944,300 cases.
