Pigeon sets off speed camera when flying too fast

A fast and furious pigeon is making headlines around the world after it set off a speed camera for flying too fast.

The bird was flashed by the camera in the city of Bocholt in western Germany for flying 45km/h in a 30km/h zone.

The image, snapped on February 13, shows an empty suburban street with the speeding pigeon mid-flight.

The City of Bocholt posted the now-viral photo to its Facebook page, saying the pigeon was “on a collision course with vehicles and pedestrians".

"Whether and, above all, how the fast bird can and will pay its €25 (A$40) on-the-spot fine remains to be seen,” the caption read.

Earlier this year, a swooping pigeon left a man paralysed from the waist down after it flew into the motorbike rider’s helmet in Northumberland, England.

Another bird made headlines in April for dicing with the law when it tipped its owners off to a police raid.

The parrot had been taught to alert drug dealers of police operations by repeatedly screaming: ‘Mum, police!’.
