Piers Morgan Addresses Widespread Protests And Condemns 'Systemic Racism': 'Something Has To Change'

Piers Morgan returned to Good Morning Britain with a message condemning the “systemic racism” which he said has “bedevilled America for so long”.

After a week off, Piers and Susanna Reid once again took their places at the GMB desk on Monday morning, where they discussed the ongoing protests in America, following the death of George Floyd.

Floyd died last week, at the hands of a police officer who had been kneeling on his neck, while three others stood by, an incident which has led to mass outrage and protests all over the world.

Piers initially commented on the protests on Sunday writing: “Horrendous scenes all over America. Fully justified protests at the despicable police killing of George Floyd now devolving into widespread looting, chaos, rioting & anarchy.

“There’s been nothing like this since the reaction to the assassination of Martin Luther King in 1968. Very worrying.”

During Monday’s GMB, he said on the matter: “System racism has bedevilled America for so long. And something has to change, it can not go on like this.

“You can not have a Black American being killed in the street by a white policeman with his knee on his neck for nearly 10 minutes, it’s unbelievable.”

Susanna then paid tribute to Breonna Taylor, a Black woman killed by the police at her home while she slept in March.

“She was shot eight times by the officers’ gunfire,” Susanna said. “She died as a result. She was in bed at the time.”

Susanna also mentioned Stephon Clark, who was killed by police in 2018, who claimed that he had pointed a gun at them, when in fact all he had on his person at the time was a mobile phone.
