BBC Weather Watchers have been treated this week to red skies at night in the mornings - and unusual cloud formations.
Lenticular clouds could be seen widely across Scotland over the past few days.
The clouds form when the air is stable and winds blow across hills and mountains from a similar direction at different heights through the troposphere, according to the Met Office.
They often resemble UFO flying saucers.

The UK is currently gripped by gloomy and chilly weather. Temperatures are a "good few degrees" below where they should be for this time of year, according to the Met Office, and various places such as Northumberland and County Durham have already been covered in snow. High pressure over Scandinavia has led to a blocked weather pattern across the UK and Ireland, Sky News meteorologist Jo Robinson says.
