A woman who was mauled to death by a pack of dogs in Queensland has been identified.

Amanda Carmichael was killed on Tuesday after she was mauled by three dogs at a home in Maryborough, north of the Sunshine Coast.

The Fraser Coast Chronicle reports the owner of the dogs did not live at the home and the animals had been dropped to the Milton Street address earlier in the day.

The publication added the dogs needed minding but were only set to stay at the home for a few hours and Ms Carmichael was visiting at the time of the attack.

She suffered serious injuries to her head, chest and one arm with Acting Inspector Wade Lee describing the incident as a "very tragic accident".

It is believed the neighbours raised the alarm as the critically injured woman was found lying wounded in the yard.

Officers fought to save her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friend David Kindelan told the Fraser Coast Chronicle that Ms Carmichael had a few troubling years but was a good person.

"I was friends with her brother before I met her," he said.

"She was really cool."

The dogs, believed to be cross breeds but predominately pitbull, were corralled into a shed and have since been removed by the local council.

The Fraser Coast Chronicle reports authorities do not know how long Ms Carmichael was at the home before she was mauled by the dogs.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
