A family has shared their heartbreak after a little girl was hit by a car and killed in Sydney’s west.

Alannah Sobolewski, 5, was crossing with her mum Taylor Maddock at Rooty Hill Road North, Plumpton, on Wednesday about 7.20pm when both were hit by a car.

Ms Maddock was hospitalised in a serious but stable condition while her daughter was in a critical condition.

Alannah died shortly after in Westmead Hospital.

The little girl’s great grandmother wrote on Facebook, the family’s “hearts are breaking”.

“Our beautiful granddaughter and great granddaughter were hit by a car while crossing the road,” she wrote.

“Sadly our baby girl has gone with the angels.”

Another relative pictured her hand holding Alannah’s.

“Your hand in mine for the last time but in my heart forever,” she wrote.

NSW Chief Inspector Sean Gabin told reporters the crash “was absolutely tragic”.

The driver of the car was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing.

The incident remains under investigation.
