More than 1000 young netball players have paid tribute to eight-year-old girl Olivia Douglas, who died in a crash near Childers in south-east Queensland, by marking a moment of silence on Sunday.

The Gold Coast girl was on her way to a netball tournament in Bundaberg on Friday when the vehicle she was in crashed head-on into another car.

A man in his 50s also died in the accident.

Tributes have been posted online for the young girl, with one person writing: “Shine bright sweet girl, we had a ball being able to play with you for the past two years.”

“We are devastated that two people have tragically lost their lives. One of those was an 8-year-old member of our Queensland netball community.

“We are heartbroken for her family, friends, school and netball communities that have been impacted by this tragedy.”

The Coomera Netball Club confirmed three members of their club had been involved in the fatal car crash, adding a senior coach and her granddaughter had been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

It is believed the parents of the eight-year-old girl had been travelling in a vehicle behind their daughter when the accident occurred.

A GoFundMe page has been started to help the families who have been impacted.
