Philippines House Has Enough Votes to Impeach VP Duterte
(Bloomberg) -- The Philippines’ House of Representatives has sufficient votes to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte, local radio DZBB reported, citing House Secretary General Reginald Velasco.

Velasco will make a formal announcement at the plenary session later on Wednesday, the report said.
An impeachment complaint against Duterte must be backed by at least one-third of the more than 300 House members for it to be transmitted to the Senate for a trial.
A separate ABS-CBN report cited Velasco as saying that a fourth impeachment complaint already garnered the support of 153 House members. Three other complaints were earlier filed against Duterte, which centered around her alleged misuse of public funds — allegations she has denied.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signaled last month that he doesn’t support moves to oust Duterte at the moment, even as their powerful political clans have been engaging in a public spat after their winning alliance in the 2022 elections unraveled.
The Southeast Asian nation has a history of impeaching government officials, most notably former President Joseph Estrada and Chief Justice Renato Corona. An impeachment trial could result in removal and disqualification from holding office, according to the Constitution.
