Pet dog almost dies trying to save owner from vicious kangaroo attack

A woman has recounted the moment her loyal dog Bundy saved her life from an aggressive kangaroo, while almost losing his.

On Sunday, 71-year-old Pam Baldwin was walking her Rottweiler along Nail Can Hill in Albury — where she has been going for over 20 years — when she came face-to-face with the apparently six-foot roo.

"I come from the bush, I'm very aware of kangaroos and I was just walking on Sunday and I just had this feeling that someone was behind me," she said on Today.

"I turned around and just looked up at these eyes and nose and the next minute he's just gone 'bang' with his two back legs."

She told 3AW that she was kicked to the floor and possibly "blacked out".

Ms Baldwin's "traumatic experience" led to a deep scratch on her arm and a bruised stomach, though if it weren't for Bundy trying to protect her, it could've been much worse.

"Bundy is the fifth Rottweiler I've had, I wouldn't have another dog," she said on Today.

" He almost lost his life for me.

Ms Baldwin told 3AW that her dog had been chasing the kangaroo for about 45 minutes to not let it "come near (her)" while she waited for the ambulance to arrive.

Her friends then went to check up on him and claim he was close to dying from fighting the kangaroo.

"He was within 20 to 40 seconds of being drowned because the kangaroos lead them into a dam if there's one around," Ms Baldwin told Today.

She also said her friends brought long poles with them that scared off the marsupial.

Council turned away Albury woman attacked by kangaroo

Ms Baldwin told media she went to report the incident to her local council, however they and the rangers said it "wasn't their problem".

Though she believes "someone needs to do something about it" given that the kangaroos have become an issue in the area.

"People take their children, ladies push their babies in a pram," Ms Baldwin said to Today. "What if it was one of them of them?"
