Pensioner left bleeding in ditch after dog mauls ‘chunk of flesh’ from his arm

WARNING – GRAPHIC CONTENT: A pensioner has been left requiring a skin graft to his arm after he was the victim of a vicious dog attack.

Charles Brown, 82 was left bleeding in a ditch after a dog attacked him while he was walking through a park in Derby, England, on July 19.

The octogenarian claims a large black dog, possibly a labrador, ran towards him and took a chunk of flesh from his arm.

“The force of the dog was indescribable, and it knocked me over onto my back, my lower body is all bruised, my back is twisted, and the flesh of my arm was nowhere to be seen,” Mr Brown said.

“I don’t know if the dog ate it or not, but it was gone, I remember laying in bed that evening and noticing how much flesh was gone.”

Mr Brown added the force of the attack knocked him backwards into a ditch and the dog’s owner told him the “huge” dog “had his injections” and reassured him “you’ll be fine” before fleeing.

“He leapt straight for my neck so I put my arm in the way and he got a hold of that, when I looked down after being slammed to the ground, I could see bone,” he said.

“I fell into a ditch and my back was in so much pain, even worse than my arm, so I knew it was serious.

“My arm was bleeding continuously, there was so much of it and the man whose dog attacked me had already made his escape.”

Mr Brown managed to call wife, Ann, who rushed him to hospital where he was told he would need a skin graft to repair the damage.

But he remains worried the dog might attack someone else and the next time it happens it could be fatal.

His wife is furious the dog owner abandoned him.

“It’s disgusting, we want to find the culprit before this happens again,” Ann said.

“Charles doesn’t always have his phone on him, it’s so lucky that he did this time because who knows how he would have ended up if he couldn’t contact anyone.”

Mr Brown has been in and out of hospital. His arm is bandaged up but it still bleeds while he awaits the skin graft.

“This has put my whole life on hold. I’m quite fit for an 82-year-old, I often walk 12 miles a day and now I’m stuck in bed,” he said.

“As well as being stuck in bed, my back is in serious pain, my arm will be permanently damaged and I’m not sure how long it’s going to take me to get better."

Derbyshire police are currently investigating the matter.

The owner of the dog is described as a white elderly man.
