Penguins Line Up for Weigh-In at Australian Aquarium

A waddle of penguins hopped onto a scale, one after the other, at the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, as they underwent health checks before moving to their sister aquarium in Sydney.

Video shared by the Melbourne aquarium on May 26 shows king and gentoo penguins waiting around a scale, diligently taking turns at the weigh-in. According to the press release from the aquarium, the penguins were patiently responding to “the promise of their favorite fish and squid snacks.”

Brett DePoister, the aquarium’s attending veterinarian, says in the video, “They’re going to be moving [to Sydney] as part of a breeding program. We just want to make sure they’re nice and healthy before making that journey.” Credit: SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium via Storyful
