A sculpture trail will feature a tribute to a much loved school governor when it opens later this year.

The great Waddle of Worcester will include a penguin chick to celebrate the life of Jill Wheeler from Droitwich Spa.

The late Mrs Wheeler was a governor at St Peter’s Droitwich Church of England Academy for more than 21 years.

A total 40 individual penguins and 40 chicks will be in the city from 22 July before being auctioned to raise money for St Richard's Hospice.

Previous art trails involving elephants and giraffes have collectively raised more than £700,000 for the charity.

Mrs Wheeler's daughter said the sculpture was the perfect way to remember her.

“Mum loved completing charity sculpture trails around the country with family and friends so sponsoring a miniature penguin painted by the children at St Peter’s in Droitwich feels like the perfect way to honour her memory,” said Nikki Wheeler.

“It’s also a fitting way to say thank you to St Richard’s for the care and compassion they showed Mum in her last few days.

"We’re so very grateful for everything the team did."
