A pedestrian has died after being hit by a police vehicle on an emergency call.

The man in his 60s suffered a serious head injury when he was hit by the vehicle on B4113 Coventry Road in Nuneaton at about 20:45 BST on Friday, Warwickshire Police said.

"Despite the best efforts of paramedics from the ambulance service, he sadly died at the scene. His next of kin has been informed," the force added.

Neither of the police officers were hurt. Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash, which happened between the junction of Gipsy Lane and the Griff Roundabout.

Officers have also appealed for dashcam footage or information which may help the investigation.

The force said the incident had been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).

"Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and friends at this time," a police spokesperson said.

An IOPC spokesperson said: "After we were notified by the force, we sent our investigators to the scene and to the police post-incident procedure to begin gathering information and initial accounts from the officers involved."
