Passengers force their way out of train during peak-hour nightmare

Commuters in Melbourne can expect delays after powerlines fell on a train in the city’s southwest.

Metro Trains tweeted a power fault at Laverton on the Weribee line occurred just before 4pm.

“Buses have been ordered but may take over one hour to arrive, consider alternate transport options,” it tweeted.

“For your safety, please remain on the train and listen to announcements or directions from staff. You will be evacuated from the train when safe to do so.”

An overhead cable fell on the carriage with passengers hearing loud bangs, 7 News reported.

Some reportedly forced doors open to get out of the carriage.

The broken cable also cut power to the train, News Corp reported.

Buses are replacing trains between Newport and Werribee.
