Passengers' 'disrespectful' act on Sydney train disgusts fellow commuters

A group of women have been shamed on social media after a photo surfaced of them resting bare feet on the seats of a Sydney train.

A fellow commuter took a picture that shows two women with their bare feet on the seats, while a third wearing thongs is seen resting one foot.

“That’s more disgusting than putting your shoes on the seats,” was the caption that accompanied the picture shared to Reddit on Saturday.

Many hit out at the passengers for their actions.

One commented: “Just dirt. Don't do it. It's unethical and poor social behaviour. There is no justification really.”

Another said the practice was not only rude, but also unhygienic.

“Your feet sweat more than most of your body, and there are bacteria and fungus there that you won't get rid of just by trying to wash,” they wrote. “They emit an unpleasant odour, and that odour clings to what they touch. It's gross and disrespectful to everyone else.”

A third put it simply: “Welcome to Sydney trains.”

Commuters caught travelling on Sydney trains with their feet on the seats can be fined from $100 to $1100, according to Transport NSW.

Just weeks ago social media users were grossed out when footage was shared of a man appearing to caress the bare feet of woman on a plane tray table.
