61 People Killed in Passenger Plane Crash in Brazil That Was Caught on Video
The airline, VoePass, said in a statement that 57 passengers and four crew members were on board the plane when it went down in São Paulo
A passenger plane has crashed in Brazil, killing all 61 people on board.
VoePass said on their website that the Guarulhos Airport-bound plane crashed in Vinhedo, São Paulo, on Friday, Aug. 9, after taking off from Cascavel, Parana, with 57 passengers and four crew members.
"The company regrets to inform that all 61 people on board flight 2283 died at the scene," VoePass said, according to a translation.
The airline initially said 62 people had died but later revised the number of passengers down by one.
It remains unclear what caused the plane to crash and VoePass said it was working with investigators.

Video of the incident shared by multiple news outlets shows the plane spiraling from the sky before crashing.

According to images shared by Brazil’s GloboNews TV, the downed plane was then seen engulfed in flames near what appears to be a home.

In a translated bulletin, São Paulo government officials said crews responded to the Capela neighborhood in Vinhedo around 1 p.m. local time.
Multiple teams were mobilized to rescue any survivors, while some were responsible for collecting the remains of those who died, they added.
Additionally, teams at both the Unicamp Clinical Hospital and Sumaré State Hospital were prepared to care for any patients from the crash who may be referred to them.
Governor Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas returned to São Paulo from Vitória in wake of the news, and plans to visit Vinhedo to follow the response.
"Voepass has taken all measures to support those involved," the airline said.
Their website also provided a hotline for relatives of the passengers to use for updates on the crash.
