Paramedic crushed to death between two ambulances in freak accident

A paramedic has died in a freak accident after she was crushed between two ambulances while responding to a job.

The tragedy occurred in the US state of Philadelphia on Saturday morning (local time) when 32-year-old Nisha Jaia Renee Dash was helping to load a patient into the ambulance.

The vehicle was parked in front of another unoccupied ambulance, and as Ms Dash was in-between them, the ambulance in front started rolling backwards.

The driver realised the vehicle had been left in reverse and jumped in to slam on the brake, but instead hit the accelerator, causing the car to fly backwards into his co-worker.

Ms Dash was pinned between the ambulances and despite being rushed to hospital, she died a short time later.

The woman’s sudden death left her family reeling, with tributes rolling in on social media.

“I'm at a loss and so broken hearted right now so please continue to pray for my family. Nisha Jaia you will be missed and never forgotten. RIP baby. I'm sure your dad is hugging you tight,” one family member wrote.

“I’m so numb right now seeing all the post about you is so confusing because all I can say is it’s not true,” a lifelong friend wrote on Facebook.

“I’m going to miss your smile the most anytime you entered a room it came to life!! I’m going to miss you more than words could ever explain!”

A GoFundMe page described Ms Dash as a “kind, loving and caring spirit” who died “doing what she loved to do, help people”.

“Nisha was a 32-year-old kind, loving and caring spirit with a bubbly personality and bright smile that would light up any room,” the fundraiser said.

“Nisha was such a loving person and the primary breadwinner in her household because her mother was ill. Even though she had no biological children of her own, she was raising her 4-year-old cousin Nya (her “Bug”).”

Any funds raised will go towards the cost of Ms Dash’s funeral, which is planned for September 22.

Philadelphia police are investigating the incident.
