Gold bars, 98 Rolex watches awarded to long-serving employees of Paradise Group
Rolex watches were given to staff who had served the company for at least 10 years, regardless of position.
SINGAPORE — You may not be able to walk into a store and buy a Rolex watch, but for 98 long-serving Paradise Group employees, it was the company's reward to them for a decade of hard work.
They were among those acknowledged during the company's annual dinner and dance on Monday (6 March), presented with the Rolex watches as a token of appreciation for their years of service.
A staff member shared a video on Facebook on Tuesday of the employees picking up their Rolexes from a table at the event, where over 1,300 employees and partners celebrated the F&B chain operator's 14th anniversary.
According to The Straits Times, the Paradise Group said that the celebrations at Marina Bay Sands Grand Ballroom cost $2 million.
Rolex watches were given to employees who had served the company for at least 10 years, regardless of position.
The Straits Times also reported that the recipients were among 330 employees that were awarded five- to 15-year long-service awards, along with gifts, such as Swiss gold bars.
Several netizens lauded this generous gesture, while others asked whether the company was hiring.
The global demand for a Rolex
During the COVID-19 pandemic, global demand for luxury watches from brands like Rolex skyrocketed, with the limited supply unable to keep up.
While the prices of secondhand Rolexes have slid since their peak last year, many still consider them to be good purchases which hold their value.
Rolex itself, after decades of staying away from the secondary market, shocked the industry when it rolled out its own pre-owned programme in December last year.
The Rolex Certified Pre-Owned programme lets retailers and authorised dealers in the brand’s "official distribution network" sell pre-owned models, which come with new two-year international warranties and are certified authentic.
