Residents of a blacked out street in suburban Melbourne have restrained an allegedly drunken P-plater trying to flee after crashing his car into a power pole.
The 20-year-old returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.157 after the crash on Centre Road at Berwick in the early hours of Sunday morning, police said.
He allegedly struck multiple bollards and crashed into a power pole, cutting the street's electricity.
"A number of residents helped restrain the man as he allegedly attempted to flee the scene," police said.
The Glen Waverley man's licence has been suspended for 12 months and his vehicle has been impounded for a month at a cost of $1052.
He's expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic offences.
The impound forms part of Operation Nexus, a state-wide road safety focus for all police until Anzac Day.
