A P-plate driver has destroyed his dad's new V8 Mustang over the weekend after losing control on a slippery road.

The 20-year-old driver was turning a corner onto Carlisle Avenue in Mount Druitt on Sunday night when he lost control on the slippery road and slammed into a power pole, 7News reported.

Locals helped the driver out of the $70,000 car before he was taken to hospital with minor leg and head injuries.

NSW Police confirmed to Yahoo News Australia the young man was the only person in the Mustang at the time of the accident.

However, his dad's new car was not so lucky and was written off.

Speaking to 7News, the man's father explained the car was only purchased last week and was going to be used for his daughter's wedding

The father stressed his son was a safe driver who is "very patient, very quiet, very good".

Though the brand-new Mustang was insured, P-plate drivers are banned from driving high-performance vehicles in NSW, so the insurance does not cover it.

The pole was also "badly" damaged in the crash, according to police.

NSW Police said no charges were laid.
