Oz Lotto: 'Overwhelmed' couple claim $5.8 million prize

A Brisbane couple has woken up to a life-changing start to the work day after realising they had won almost $6 million dollars in Oz Lotto’s Tuesday draw.

“I checked the ticket at around 9:30 this morning, just before I was about to head into work. Of course I didn’t go after that,” the overwhelmed man, from New Farm in Brisbane’s inner city, told The Lott.

The pair, who wish to remain anonymous, held one of the two division-one winning entries nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1380, pocketing $5,865,030.22.

Australia’s newest multimillionaires needed some time to process the big win. He was left speechless after calling The Lott who confirmed his winnings.

“Thank you,” the Brisbane man eventually managed to say.

“I haven’t been able to sit down, we’re so overwhelmed,” he added.

When asked how the lucky husband and wife plan to spend their new cash, the couple said they would continue to work, but were quick to add: “I don’t think we will work as hard.”

“This prize changes everything, this will give us so much relief and financial freedom,” he explained.

The division-one winning entry was purchased at Premier News and Casket on Merthyr Road in New Farm.

Premier News and Casket owner David Dunley told The Lott he and his team were happy to hear the winner had claimed their massive multimillion-dollar win.

“It’s been ages since our last big division-one win so it’s great to see the action back in New Farm,” he said.

Meanwhile the couple are still trying to adjust to their prize money, describing it as “surreal”.

“I think it’s safe to say my wife and I are very much in shock,” the man said.

“We can’t get our head around it.”
