Oz Lotto: Golf mates struggle to believe $30 million jackpot win

The friends, who are all in their 40s, spent the night celebrating before claiming their prize.

A group of eight friends are struggling to comprehend their good fortune after snagging Tuesday night's incredible $30 million Oz Lotto jackpot.

The Western Australian syndicate, which started after the group of mates in their 40s began playing golf together, told Lotterywest they were stunned to discover they held the winning ticket, a Slikpik 50. The lucky numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1521 were 19, 47, 15, 46, 12, 9 and 21. The supplementary numbers were 16, 34 and 30.

The group's ticket holder was enjoying a roast beef dinner with his wife when he realised they had scored the jackpot. “I started making calls to the rest of the group to tell them we’d won,” he said.

“One of the guys didn’t believe me and went back to eating his dinner. Another group member told me that if it was a prank he would come over and I’d be in a lot of trouble.”

After spending most of the night out celebrating, the friends took a quick nap before presenting themselves at the Lotterywest headquarters on Wednesday morning to claim their prize of $3.75m each.

Oz Lotto winners reveal windfall plans

The millionaires said they plan on using the windfall to pay off their mortgages and take overseas holidays. One of the mates said he couldn’t wait to upgrade his car, which he has had since he was on his P plates.

The group has become the sixth division one winner in 2023. “We’ve had a steady stream of Oz Lotto division one wins so far this year, which is why we haven’t seen the jackpot climb too high, until now,” The Lott’s Matt Hart told Seven News.

Last month, a couple from Victoria scored a $20 million Oz Lotto jackpot.

Aussies will have another chance to win big in Thursday’s $30m Powerball draw. “Simply choose your favourite seven numbers and sit back and watch the yellow balls drop,” The Lott’s website reads.
