NSW delivery driver's incredible excuse after crashing into car

A delivery driver has crashed his car after an owl flew through an open window and hit him in the head.

The man, 21, was driving in Belmont North, south of Newcastle, on Saturday about 10.30pm when the bird smacked into his head.

Police said the owl “stunned the driver” causing him to crash his van into a parked car.

“The driver of the van, fearing he would be attacked for a second time jumped from his vehicle and was assisted by nearby residents, one of whom photographed the owl seated on the dash of the delivery van,” police said.

“The owl failed to exchange particulars and made good his escape before the police arrived on scene.”

The driver didn’t sustain any injuries.

On Facebook, people were shocked by the story.

“Would love to be a fly on the wall when the driver tells his boss,” one woman wrote.

“Glad no one was hurt.”

Another woman added the crash was her “biggest fear”.

“That owl didn't give a hoot who he hurt with his reckless joy flying,” one person joked.
