Outrage as horse left for dead after hit by car

WARNING, GRAPHIC IMAGES: A horse has been left to die in the middle of the road after it was hit by a car while pulling a carriage.

The horse was part of a procession in Bilston, England, when it bolted on to a road in front of a car, smashing the windscreen and denting the bonnet and roof.

Suffering deep cuts to its neck, chest and legs, the horse lay on the road bleeding profusely – but instead of helping the animal, witnesses said the men inside the carriage fled.

Disturbing images show two men covering their faces as they leave the scene in another carriage. They are believed to be the owners of the horse.

RSPCA Inspector Vicki Taylor said the scene was a “shocking sight” and the horse was “clearly suffering”.

‘When I arrived, the men with the horse had already left, dragging the trap away with them,” she said.

“Witnesses provided photos of the owners taking off the trap and leaving the horse in the road.

“It must have been a shock to be involved in an accident like this but these men essentially abandoned this horse to die.”

The horse is expected to make a full recovery. While she is underweight, it’s believed no bones were broken.

The occupants of the car were lucky to escape injury.

Police are appealing for help from the public to identify the men in the photographs.
