Outrage as taxi driver allegedly poses as Uber passenger during violent assault

Shocking footage has surfaced of a taxi driver posing as an Uber passenger during an alleged assault on a driver.

The ride sharing service claim ‘rival’ taxi drivers have sunk to a new low in their fight for fares.

The popular service say a cab driver posed as an Uber passenger before launching into a vile attack on a driver.

The driver had arrived to pick the customer up for what he thought would be a routine fare.

However the passenger was intent on abusing the driver and smashed two religious statues on the car's dashboard.

“Next time, you're looking in this area, I'll **** you up,” the 'passenger' reportedly said.

Footage of the attack has shocked the local community where Uber is frequently used.

Uber has since issued a statement saying:

“A small but vocal minority in the taxi industry have long used fear, misinformation and intimidation to campaign against ride sharing.”

Taxi drivers also claim they've faced attacks and fear it will only get worse.

David Singh of the Victorian Taxi and Hire Car Family Association said drivers had had their cars ‘rammed and driven away’.

“A driver was hit… a few months ago,” he said.

“It’s getting to boiling point where things will come out on to the street eventually”.

The Victorian government has said they are keen to see the dispute between Uber and the Taxi industry resolved.
