Oprah says she didn’t take ‘personal fee’ for Harris event
Oprah Winfrey says she didn’t take a “personal fee” for the campaign event she did with Vice President Harris before last week’s election.
Winfrey was responding to a rumor that she was paid $1 million by the Harris campaign for a star-studded event in September.
“I was not paid a dime. My time and energy was my way of supporting the campaign,” Winfrey said in a comment on Instagram.
“I did not take any personal fee. However the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story,” she added.
Winfrey said her production company Harpo Productions was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, microphones, crew, producers and other necessary items to put on the livestreaming event in September.
A Harpo spokesperson said in a statement to Variety that the campaign paid for the production costs and that Winfrey was “at no point during the campaign paid a personal fee, nor did she receive a fee from Harpo.”
The rumor began following Harris’s election loss, when outlets began examining her campaign’s finances and how money was spent. More will be known after the Federal Election Commission filings are released 30 days after the election.
