Kamala Harris Joins Oprah For “Unite For America” Virtual Event Next Week – Update

UPDATE 2:20 PM: If you thought September 19’s Unite for America event couldn’t get more of a power player onboard than host Oprah Winfrey, think again.

Hot off her evisceration of Donald Trump in their first and likely only debate on September 10 on ABC, Vice President Kamala Harris herself will be now joining the live streamed United for America, it was revealed Thursday.

“What is essential to me is getting people motivated to vote – and that’s my intention in hosting this event,” said Oprah today. “My goal is to get people excited about the privilege and power of the vote.”

Partnering with Win With Black Women for the live streamed gathering, the VP will be with the Queen of talk, more than 140 grassroots groups, and one or two more surprise guests next week at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET across multiple platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Twitch and YouTube. In what is turning into a week of star power for the VPOTUS and Democratic nominee, Unite for America is one day before former President Barack Obama will be out in LA to headline a fundraiser for the Veep on September 20.

Talking about YouTube, stressing the “big, virtual, online voting rally right here,” Oprah also debuted a short video today on her brand new channel on the platform to pump up the volume for Unite for America – as you can see:

PREVIOUSLY, SEPT 9 PM: Fresh off a surprise appearance of sorts at the Democratic National Convention last month, Oprah Winfrey is putting more of her star power behind Vice President Kamala Harris’ White House bid with a live streamed event next week.

Co-hosted with Win With Black Women and nearly 150 other groups supporting the Veep, the Unite for America virtual shindig is set for September 19 at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET – – RSVP here.

Building off the efforts put together in the 2020 campaign, WWBM were in first and strong for the Vice President mere hours after Joe Biden announced on July 21 he was stepping aside from the 2024 election and endorsing Harris. That night almost 100,000 people joined the online evening meet-up with over $1.6 million raised in a mater of two hours. Overall in her first day as a candidate, Harris brought in a massive $81 million in donations.

“This ‘Unite for America’ call will be a powerful moment that demonstrates the urgency that we all feel in this moment and more importantly the impact of our collective activation to move our nation forward with Vice President Kamala Harris as our 47th President,” says Jotaka Eaddy, social impact strategist and founder of WWBW. “I cannot think of anyone better to host this event than Oprah Winfrey, who has brought Americans of different generations, backgrounds, and experiences together in conversation for decades,” she added of the talk show guru in this voter awareness and register to vote move.

Perhaps prepping for her upcoming September 12 ABC special on AI, Oprah herself did not make a statement about the Unite for America event. But, with the success such gatherings have had since WWBW started the ball rolling in July, maybe her presence speaks for itself in this case.

After WWBW, more virtual meet-ups were soon in the mix with Win With Black Men, White Dudes for Harris, South Asians for Harris, Cat Ladies for Kamala, Comics for Kamala, White Women: Answer the Call and Show Up for Kamala Harris, Republicans for Harris, Latino Men for Kamala and of course, leaning in to a certain much desired endorsement, Swifties for Kamala. In the six weeks that the VP has been a candidate and now the Democrats’ official nominee for president, the Zoom call gatherings have raised over $20 million for her and running mate Gov. Tim Walz’ campaign.

The unveiling of Unite for America comes just more than 24 hours before the Vice President is scheduled to meet rival Donald Trump for the first time ever in their first debate. Live from Philadelphia, the primetime face-off is being hosted by ABC News — though unless a deal is made soon, DirecTV subscribers will have to watch a simulcast as all 16 Disney-owned channels on the cable satellite provider have gone dark in a carriage dispute between the parties.

Wonder Woman herself Lynda Carter has organized a Geeks & Nerds for Harris event via Zoom for September 24. Among the participants are Stacey Abrams, the creative team from The Boys, more than a few Star Trek alum and big screen Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins — with more names for the Comic-Con crowd to be revealed soon.
