Unhappy Hawks under new ownership
Unhappy Hawks under new ownership

I'd like to be a fly on the wall when the Scott brothers, Chris and Brad, get together over Christmas dinner.

No one had better mention 'starts'.

Over the past weekend the quarter time scoreboard read WA teams 12.11, the Scott Brothers 0.4.

Only Edward the First gave it to the Scotts like the Dockers and the Eagles.

Amazing!

On Saturday night I sat spellbound, not quite believing what I was watching.

I doubt I've ever seen a great team like Geelong appear so unprepared for a game of footy.

Which is not to take anything away from Fremantle other than to say Chris Scott's team was simply uncompetitive when it mattered most, at the start.

Fast forward 14 hours and brother Brad's North Melbourne, admittedly not a team of Geelong's stature, were equally lackluster.

They too went goal-less and trailed the Eagles by 43 points after a quarter.

As a result things look very encouraging for WA's two teams.

Playing well at the right time is a key to success in the finals and West Coast and Fremantle appear to be peaking at just the right time.

As long as they continue to start with the sort of determination and flair they mustered over the weekend and don't start believing their own hype, this could be the start of something big.

Bigger and more startling than anything we may have imagined last Friday.

Oops, apologies to the Scotts, didn't mean to mention the 'S' word.
