Only Connect viewers distracted by contestant's unusual skill
Some people watching at home claimed they could do it too
What did you miss?
Only Connect viewers were distracted as a contestant revealed he could recite the alphabet in five seconds - backwards.
The BBC show - which is hosted by TV star Victoria Coren Mitchell - is known for its tough questions and viewers are used to contestants with some serious quizzing skills. But Chris Nash, who was on Monday's show (30 September), captured attention with his curious talent.
People watching the game show posted messages about it on social media, saying they wanted to see Nash show off his special trick.
What, how and why?
Host Coren Mitchell was introducing the hopefuls and as she turned to the Crunchers team, she said: "Chris Nash is a business support analyst who can say the alphabet backwards in five seconds." Viewers were intrigued, with one person posting on X: "When are we going to get the alphabet backwards in under 5 seconds."
A couple of fans reckoned they could give Nash a run for his money when it came to reeling off their A, B, Cs. One commented: "Apparently one of the contestants in tonight's Only Connect can say the alphabet backwards in five seconds. Well I've just done it in four, twice. It's my utterly useless superpower."
"Just fyi, I can say the alphabet backwards in 3.73 seconds," claimed another.
After hearing what the quizzers could do, one viewer confessed: "Only Connect is making me feel extra thick tonight."
What else happened on Only Connect?
The other big talking point in the latest show was Nash's teammate, Ian Wang. Many fans were convinced that they had seen him somewhere before and it wasn't long before people had made the connection with University Challenge.
In 2020 an Ian Wang was a contestant on the programme and was part of the Cambridge team, which made it all the way to the final. They ended up losing out to Imperial College London, but viewers were impressed with Wang's knowledge and ability.
"What’s Ian Wang been on before???" one person asked on X. Somebody else wrote: "Has Ian Wang been on university challenge? Looking very familiar."
"Wow Only Connect it's Wang from University Challenge he was brilliant," another fan said.
Someone else wrote: "A couple of familiar faces in the Crunchers team - Ian Wang has been on Uni Challenge and Mastermind so has now completed the quizzing holy trinity, and Dennis Wang was on Jeopardy earlier this year."
