Shocking moment elderly man is 'assaulted' on bus

Police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly assaulted an elderly passenger on a bus, pouring a drink on his head and punching him in the face.

The 83-year-old man was catching a bus in the Bronx in New York, when he was attacked by a man standing next to him.

A video was released on the NYPD Crime Stoppers Twitter, urging people to come forward with any information about the incident.

The suspect has been described as a black male aged between ages 30 and 40, and around 180cm tall.

The victim was trying to get off the bus when he was attacked

According to police, the 83-year-old was trying to get off the MTA bus around 5:30 pm on May 31 in the Bronx before the altercation occurred.

In the clip, the two men are standing by each other on a bus and talking for a few seconds before the man raises a full bottle of soft drink and starts to pour it over the elderly man's head. He then appears to punch the older man in the face.

The NYPD told the Washington Examiner the man was hospitalised for over a week for multiple facial fractures.

Police are offering up to US$3,5000 (A$4,700) for anyone with information.

According to NYPD statistics, the crime rate in New York has risen six per cent this year compared to 2020.
