NT woman assaulted, attempt murder charge

A Northern Territory man who allegedly bashed a woman and assaulted a neighbour when he ran to her aid has been charged with attempted murder.

The woman, 33, suffered serious head injuries when two men, aged 23 and 29, allegedly assaulted her in East Arnhem on Saturday about 2am.

A neighbour was knocked unconscious after he stepped in to help, a police spokeswoman said on Monday.

The woman was taken to hospital and has since been released.

Police searched the community and arrested the two men.

The 23-year-old was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful entry, criminal damage and going armed in public.

The 29-year-old was charged with attempt murder, aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful entry, criminal damage and going armed in public,

They will appear in the Darwin Local Court on February 9.
