Northern Territory prisons continue to operate over capacity with prisoner numbers reaching an all-time high this week.
NT Correctional Services says the Territory's prisons and work camps currently have 1833 prisoners or about 111 per cent of design capacity.
The number of male prisoners at the Darwin Correctional Centre has also reached a new high of 1013.
To cope, another 20 beds have been added with double bunking in some cells while another 20 beds will be ready by the end of April.
The Alice Springs Correctional Centre currently has 642 prisoners or 128 per cent of capacity.
