Killer caught on CCTV carrying bag containing body of schoolgirl

Chilling CCTV vision has emerged of the moment a child killer carried the body of a five-year-old girl to the creek where he would dump her body.

The man in the footage, Timothy Kosowicz, confessed to suffocating little Chloe Hoson to death 15 years ago, after she came to his Lansvale caravan to play with a cat.

Now, the detective who caught him has spoken out after his release, admitting the details of Kosowicz's confession made his "blood boil."

Footage shows the moment police raided Kosowicz's Lansvale caravan, recording crucial evidence that would eventually bring about a killer's confession.

Lot C27 was the caravan where Kosowicz ended the life of a five-year-old girl he had never met before, suffocating her with two plastic shopping bags.

"We were confident we'd find something linking that man, that van to Chloe's murder," NSW Police inspector Roger Best said.

Detectives had enough for a search warrant after forensics found a print on the plastic bag found on Chloe's head, an exact match with Timothy Kosovicz's left thumb.

There was a sticker found on Chloe's body that was also found in the caravan - a direct link.

Then detectives found a sports bag containing blood-soaked sheets and clothing.

It was the same bag Kosowicz had used to carry Chloe to the creek where he dumped her body, CCTV vision showing him leaving in the early hours of the morning after the search was called off for the night.

"She was inside the bag. She was inside the bag and he walked with her to the location where he dumped her body," Inspector Best said.

Back at the police station, Kosowicz lied to police, denying any involvement until they told him they were about to play the search warrant video.

"To take him to that moment where he was going to look back and look in to see exactly what he'd done ... the thought of watching this video was enough to flip him from lying to confessing," Inspector Best said.

"It was at that moment that he said those words of, 'I think I need a lawyer'."

What Kosowicz described in full, graphic detail had a surprising impact on a seasoned homicide detective.

"It was perhaps the first time I'd realised that saying of 'making your blood boil' is actually real, because that's exactly what it felt like," he said.

"It was like a rushing of noise in my head, an absolute physical reaction to what he was telling me."

Now, Kosowicz is a free man, with Seven News recently tracking him to country Victoria where he was on a week-long holiday with his parents.

The man who caught Chloe's killer has a warning for those who allowed him out on the streets.

"I have no doubt, that they're aware of making a mistake," Inspector Best said.

"The consequences of making a mistake in this matter are quite literally deadly."
