$500,000 stolen from man arriving home in western Sydney

About $500,000 has been stolen from a 45-year-old man as he returned to his western Sydney home with his day's takings.

According to police, the man had parked his car outside his home in Lidcombe at about 9.45pm on Monday, and had been trying to retrieve a bag from the boot of his car.

The man was then approached by another man who snatched the bag and began running.

Police said the robbery victim chased after the offender for about 50 metres, as captured on CCTV, but was hit from behind by a white sedan.

He sustained minor injuries.

Police said the offender was seen getting into the car which then sped away.

The western Sydney businessman said about $500,000 was in the bag. Police said it was a large amount but would not confirm the figure.

Police are looking for a man described as Mediterranean or Middle Eastern in appearance, aged in his late twenties or early thirties, with a thick black beard and short shaved head. At the time he was wearing a navy blue T-shirt and tan-coloured shorts. Anyone with information is urged to contact Flemington Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
