Man allegedly dragged 100 metres in Sydney CBD while trying to hail taxi

Police are appealing for information after a man was dragged 100 metres through a Sydney CBD street following an apparent argument with a cab driver.

The 30-year-old man attempted to hail the taxi at the intersection of Park and George streets in central Sydney at about 1.20am Saturday morning, NSW Police said in a statement.

The driver allegedly declined the fair, Sydney City Local Area Command police said.

According to the statement, the man leant into the cab through the window when the driver quickly accelerated away.

After the taxi took off the man fell to the ground and was dragged about 100m to the intersection of Druitt and Sussex streets.

He was knocked unconscious and the taxi alleged fled from the scene.

A passer-by offered assistance until emergency services arrived before the man was transported to the Sydney Eye Hospital and treated for head injuries.

Police spoke to a number of witnesses and have several leads of enquiry, the statement read.
